SSC Secure Transport rated Good by the CQC – across all five areas
Home >> CQC Rating
Our latest Care Quality Commission report, published on 30 September 2026, rates SSC Secure Transport Good overall and Good for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
We are proud to share that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated our service Good following its assessment of our Enfield head office and patient transport service on 24 June 2026. The report was published on 30 September 2026.
This rating reflects the care our whole team puts into every journey. We have invested in how we assess risk, train our crews and monitor the quality of our service – and the CQC recognised that work across every area of its assessment, from safety to leadership.
What the CQC found
Safe. Inspectors found “a positive culture of learning and improvement”. Every patient has an individual risk assessment before we travel, with clear inclusion and exclusion criteria for secure transport. Our crews carry out a further risk review on collection. All patient-facing staff are trained to safeguarding level 3 for adults and children.
Effective. Inspectors noted that our staff are “experienced, qualified and had the right skills and knowledge”. New starters shadow experienced crews and complete competency-based training before working independently. Every member of staff has completed Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards training.
Caring. Patients and the services we work with told the CQC how they felt. Our survey showed 99% of respondents rated the service as excellent or good. Feedback described our crews as “compassionate and helpful”, “welcoming and kind” and “fantastic from start to finish”. One family praised the “professionalism, compassion, and genuine care” that made a difficult day easier.
Responsive. We tailor every crew to the person we are supporting – always at least two crew members, and often three or four. Where clinical needs require it, a registered mental health nurse travels with the patient. The CQC also highlighted small moments that matter: a crew member who bought a stuffed toy for a distressed young person, and a crew who waited while a patient finished their morning prayers.
Well-led. Staff told inspectors they feel supported, valued and proud to work here. Our leaders were described as visible and approachable. We track key performance indicators – including on-time pick-ups, cancellations and the use of restraint – and review them at management meetings.
Our fleet and our people
The CQC inspected our vehicles and found them “well maintained and in good condition”. Our fleet of 12 includes 10 secure transfer vehicles with a dedicated secure area and 2 stretcher ambulances. Every crew member is directly employed – we do not use bank or agency staff – and all have enhanced up-to-date DBS checks and mandatory training.
Where we are focusing next
Good is a strong result, and we know there is always more to do. We welcome the CQC’s feedback and are already acting on it, continuing to refine our policies, record-keeping and systems. Our commitment is to keep raising the bar for the people we transport and the services we work alongside.
Thank you
This rating belongs to our crews, our clinical lead and our office team – and to the hospitals, local authorities, police and mental health professionals we work alongside every day. Our promise stays the same: every journey safe, secure and caring.
